Deadline for Spring 2025: Friday, May 9, 2025
Entrance Fee: $35.00—ALL LEVELS, payable to VMTA. Teachers must pay one fee for their entire studio.
Eligibility: Level will be determined by the school grade the student is in at the time of the next fall competitions. For example, a student in grade 4 in the spring must enter Level IB since he/she would be in grade 5 at the time of the Fall Competitions.
Note: NON MTNA-VMTA-HMTA MEMBERS will need to pay an additional $25 per student.
Repertoire: Three compositions representing three different periods – baroque, classical, romantic, impressionistic, contemporary – not to exceed the maximum time limits. There will be no exceptions (students will be stopped after the maximum time has been reached)
Time Limits: Time limits are strictly enforced on pre-recorded auditions. Not counting a brief space to re-set between musical selections, please make sure all pieces fit within the time range. Refer below for specific details.

Performing Media: Piano, voice, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, accordion, classical guitar and organ (level III only).

Student does not have to pass subsequent levels of theory or sight reading if he/she has passed the designated level for his/her school grade.
REPERTOIRE:

Time limits for each level are:
A “composition” is considered to be a single work, one work from a collection of pieces, one work from an opus with multiple pieces, or one movement from a multi-movement work. In the case of a Prelude & Fugue from the Well-Tempered Clavier, students may play either one or both movements
Entrants in the District Auditions are required to play the repertoire submitted with the application
No changes to the repertoire submitted with the application will be accepted
Questions concerning repertoire should be directed to the Local Chair of the District Auditions in advance
The Local Chair is responsible for all final decisions. The Local Chair may consult with the State Chair of the District Auditions and the State President of VMTA
Failure to comply with the guidelines will result in the teacher and students being disqualified
COLLABORATIVE PIANIST: Provided by the student. APPLICATION FORM: In this yearbook. District Auditions Chairs will forward a list of winners and their Teachers to the District Auditions State Chair. This information will then be sent to the State Auditions Chair to verify eligibility of entries. ENTRANCE FEE: $35.00—ALL LEVELS, payable to VMTA. Checks must be included with application. DEADLINE: Check with individual District Audition Chair. AWARDS: First Place each level—$40.00; Alternate each level—$25.00. The Winner and Alternate will compete at the VMTA Fall Conference. Winners and Alternates will represent the District in which they became winners and alternates.
